The Spiritual Minute: Our surprising adventure with a wolf
What wonders and marvels of life are waiting for you to notice?
When was the last time you experienced an adventure?
Earlier this week, Richard and I were at Big Bear Lake, which is about a three-hour drive outside of Los Angeles, deep into the mountains.
One afternoon, we took our camping chairs and sat right by the lake, next to a forest of trees, reading our books.
After a little while, I decided to get up to record a video a short distance away, in eyesight of Richard.
While Richard was sitting off in the distance, I spotted an animal walking right behind him.
Suddenly, I realized, it was a big gray wolf!
“Richard! Look behind you!” I yelled out.
Richard turned around and looked every which way, not seeing anything out of the ordinary.
I yelled again, “Look behind you!”, as I kept frantically pointing my fingers.
Richard turned around in the direction I was pointing and spotted the wolf, about 10 yards away from him.
The wolf looked right back at us, a piercing stare that cut deep. It was as if the wolf looked right into my soul, and I felt like I couldn’t hide anything from the wolf.
In that moment, time stopped, and the only beings that existed in the world were me, Richard and the wolf, all inextricably connected together.
After just a few moments, which felt like an eternity, the wolf then turned his head back to the direction it was originally headed, and walked off on its merry way.
I breathed a huge sigh and stood in awe of what we had witnessed.
What we experienced is a great metaphor for life itself.
There’s always something wonderful around us, waiting to be experienced and expressed.
This is life’s adventures, just waiting to be noticed by us.
Could you imagine if I had been facing another direction, or if Richard continued to read his book?
We might not have ever known that a wolf was in our midst!
Sometimes we get so busy that we don’t stop to smell the roses, or to look and experience the miraculousness of life that is already here present.
What wonders and marvels of life are waiting for you to notice, to experience as a grand adventure?
Where can you take a moment to look around, and to see what might not be normally seen by you?
And so, my question to you today is:
Are you willing to be open to that kind of joy and adventure in your own life today?
And in your willingness, then, watch and see how life responds, and says yes to your own request.
Abundant Blessings and Namaste.
