The Spiritual Minute: Let go of unnecessary worry
In a field of infinite possibilities, where do you want to place your attention?
Years ago, I was talking with a friend who was getting ready for work.
He was so upset because he had a new boss coming into work. He shared with me how this new boss was going to be a drastic change for the office, that he wasn’t the right person for the job, that it was going to be horrible all around.
I listened for a few minutes and then I asked him this question, “Is it possible that this situation might actually turn out OK?”
He immediately replied, “No! This guy’s not going to work out. This is the worst decision that this company could make.”
So, I decided to drop it.
Later that day, we met up after work, and I asked him, “Hey, how was your day?”
He immediately lit up and said, “Oh, my God, today was fantastic! This new guy is great. He’s personable. He’s kind. He’s the right person for this job!”
What a shift in 180 degrees from the morning to the afternoon!
Mark Twain, the author, once said, “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them have never happened.”
The thing is, a lot of people experience troubles, stress and anxiety with things that don’t happen.
When you look at your life and what’s unfolding, there’s an infinite number of possibilities that things can play out.
And so, where do you want to give your attention to?
Do you want to focus on the things that could possibly go wrong, or do you want to focus on things that things could actually unfold beautifully, in a way that you might not have even imagined?
You see, you get to choose where you place your attention.
So, my question for you today is, with everything that’s unfolding in your life, where do you want to give your energy to today?
Abundant Blessings and Namaste.
