It’s Okay To Feel Like A Zombie In Times Like These

This morning I was in the kitchen making some oatmeal, and I found myself staring at the pot of water, waiting for it to boil.

I don’t know how long I was standing there. Maybe a minute? Maybe two?

After a while, I snapped out of it and realized, “Oh my god! I feel like a zombie!”

I wanted to share my experience with my fiancé, Richard, so I turned to him and I saw that he was standing by the window, looking out.

However, as I looked a little closer, I realized that he wasn’t standing by the window to enjoy the view. He was standing there being a zombie too!

I had to chuckle because here we both were, having this same experience of being zombies!

This occurrence revealed to me that especially in crises like these, there are times that we will find ourselves like zombies, floating out of our body, feeling uncentered and ungrounded.

And it could strike at any moment of the day.

There’s an insightful saying that’s going around social media right now, and it says this:

“We are not working from home. We are at home, in a crisis, trying to work.”

Sometimes we forget that we’re in a crisis.

Just because we’re at home, we might think, “Okay, I could do all of these things and be super productive. I could organize my closets, wash the laundry, watch all these movies, and read all these books I’ve always been wanting to read.”

And yet, what we may not be acknowledging is that this is a an increasingly stressful time for all of us.

There may be instances where we are thrown off for a loop, at any moment of the day.

During times of crisis, or when experiences feel more than I can bear, I turn to one question that helps to put the situation into a greater perspective.

“What is this moment trying to teach me? What is the possible lesson in all of this?”

As I sat contemplating this question, one thought came to mind, and it’s this.

No matter whatever it is we might be feeling or experiencing, whether it’s being a zombie or feeling like we need to put ice cream on that pasta, it’s all okay.

It really is okay.

There’s a calling right now for us to be more authentic for how we are feeling and how we are showing up, to be more openly vulnerable and admit this is exactly what I’m feeling and experiencing.

Old notions of how we’re supposed to be, of being hyper productive — let’s go ahead and let that go to the wayside.

Allow yourself to just show up, exactly as you are in this moment.

If you are feeling a little lost, or feeling ungrounded, I encourage you to go ahead and reach out to someone…a friend or a loved one.

Find some support and connect with someone.

If you feel a bit overwhelmed, I encourage you to find a professional who could help you through this.

And remember that in all of this, whatever you’re feeling, whether you’re feeling lost, feeling like a zombie, or even feeling productive, all of those feelings are okay.

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.
