After the fire, the lessons we’re learning
In any situation, you have an infinite field of possibility where you get to decide where you place your attention and focus.
It’s been over two months now since my partner Richard and I, along with over 700 of our fellow neighbors, evacuated from the high-rise building we live in downtown Los Angeles due to an explosion and fire.
Since then, we’ve moved to five different places while extensive repairs and inspections are being done.
The update is that we still are not yet back in our homes.
And yet, in the midst of this severe disruption, or really any challenging thing that may be happening in our lives, I always say that you have a choice.
A choice for how you look at a situation.
A choice for how you respond to life unfolding.
A choice for how you show up in the world.
No matter what.
In the end, it’s not about denying any hardships you may be experiencing, but about realizing how much bigger you are than any situation or circumstance.
It’s not always easy to recognize the freedom you have to choose, but I believe you, and I, have a capacity far greater than we sometimes realize.
Below is a link to an excerpted clip from Global Truth Center Los Angeles’ Sunday service held on March 20, 2022, where I shared some of the real-time lessons I’m learning from this whole experience.
I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch the video, and to glean any insights that you might apply in your own life.
After you have a chance to watch the video, I’d like to offer you some thoughts and questions to ponder if you’d like to turn around your own thinking.
First, think of a challenging situation in your life.
How do you feel when you think about this situation? What words come up that describe your feelings about this situation?
Now take a deep breath.
Is there a way where you can look at this situation a little differently, where you could feel more powerful and solid in your own footing?
Don’t quickly move through this step. Really take a moment to consider how you might see this situation from a different, more open, perhaps elevated, perspective.
From this place of feeling more powerful and solid, is there a word that describes this new way of perceiving?
For me, with our living situation, the word I came up with is “adventure.”
For you, the word could be growth, or learning, or perfectly unfolding.
Play with this to see what word or phrase resonates and helps you to shift how you feel, where you feel lighter, more powerful, and more expansive.
Once you choose your word, allow yourself to re-look at the situation from the point of view of your word, and breathe in your expanded awareness.
Here’s the spiritual truth in all this.
In any situation, you have an infinite field of possibility where you get to decide where you place your attention and focus.
As the spiritual saying goes, “Whatever you focus on, expands.”
Yes, you are that powerful.
You always were, and you always will be.
How you use that power is up to you.
Abundant Blessings and Namaste.
